South Dakota Grassland Coalition

Annual Bird Tour

The South Dakota Grassland Coalition (SDGC) sponsors a bird tour in the state of South Dakota each year.  The tour is held in the spring of the year, when the bird activity is at its best.  The tour is also held on a working ranch.  This way the participants get a better understanding on how the landowners and grass managers maintain and protect wildlife habitat.

The 2009 Birds. At Home, On the Range Bird Watching Tour is going to be held at the Rasmussen-Lehman 33 Ranch, south of Belvidere, on June 5-6.  This unique area is located near the Badlands and offers a variety of mixed grasses and trees, providing habitat for numerous bird species.  If you wish to attend this tour please click on the link below and print off the brochure.  Then, fill it out and return it to the address on the brochure.  If you have any more questions regarding this tour please contact Judge Jessop at (605) 280-0127.

In 2007, the SDGC had their first bird tour but it was still a great success.  We had over 40 participants and seen nearly 60 different species of birds.  The title for the tour was "Birds.  At home, on the Range."  Below are some of the items from the 2007 tour.
