Annual Bird Tour
The 2024 Bird Tour to be held at Cheyenne River Ranch, home of South Dakota conservationist Dan O’Brien. Dan is the celebrated author of ‘Buffalo for the Broken Heart’ and other books about life on the Northern Plains. He is also the founder of Wild Idea Buffalo Company and an advocate for ranching in concert with nature.
Good, Bad, and Similar Looking Plant Tour
The day will include conversations and learning opportunities about treatments, biocontrol, land management, and plant ID.
- Short intro session in the morning
- Most of the day will consist of visiting sites around the local area.

2024 Annual Meeting

Fire Effects Tours
The field days will address the results of the spring prescribed fires. We will explore what lessons we learned, habitat responses to timing and conditions, ecological effects, and whether our objectives were met. We also welcome participant questions and concerns.

Pasture Walk
This pasture walk will be on Wednesday July 31st from 9 to noon east of Clear Lake SD. The Blue Bell Ranch was the 2017 Leopold Conservation Award Recipient. Attendees will tour the ranch looking at their approach to biodiversity in the grasslands, invasive species, later calving dates, winter grazing, and more.
